Footage
Privacy Policy
Footage is designed as a private travel video camera and collaborative video journal. This policy explains how the app handles data when you capture, organize, sync, and share your videos.
Last updated: April 23, 2026
Our privacy approach
Footage is built for personal memories: travel videos, family stories, private journals, events, and other moments that may not belong on public social media.
The app is designed to avoid unnecessary accounts and file management. Footage does not require email registration or a password to start filming.
Your videos are your memories. Footage uses your personal iCloud account for backup and sync features. Your video footage belongs to you and the people you choose to share it with.
Video footage and iCloud
Footage lets you create stories and record video clips directly into those stories. Depending on the features you use, your footage may be backed up and synced using your personal iCloud account.
Footage does not use third-party servers to host your personal video footage. Sync and backup behavior may depend on your Apple ID, iCloud settings, device settings, storage availability, and Apple services.
When you invite others to view or contribute to a story, the story is shared only with the people you choose. You are responsible for deciding who receives access to your shared stories.
Data linked to you
The following types of data may be collected and linked to your identity, depending on how you use the app and Apple services:
- Purchases: App Store purchase or subscription information, if applicable.
- Location: Location-related information may be used when enabled by your device permissions or Apple services.
- Identifiers: Device, app, or user identifiers used for app functionality, analytics, or attribution.
- Usage Data: Information about how the app is used, such as feature interactions and app activity.
Data used to track you
The App Store privacy information for Footage indicates that the following data may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies:
- Identifiers
- Usage Data
Where required, tracking is controlled by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission and your device settings. You can manage tracking permissions in iOS Settings.
Data not linked to you
The following data may be collected but is not linked to your identity:
- Diagnostics: Crash data, performance data, and other diagnostic information used to improve app reliability.
Analytics and app improvement
Footage may use analytics and diagnostic information to understand app performance, fix issues, improve user experience, and understand which features are useful.
Analytics data may include identifiers and usage data. Diagnostic data may include crash logs and performance information. This information helps improve the app, but it is not intended to expose the content of your private videos.
Permissions
Footage may request access to device features that are necessary for the app to work, such as the camera, microphone, photo library, notifications, iCloud, and location where relevant.
You can manage app permissions in your device settings. Some features may not work correctly if required permissions are disabled.
Sharing and collaboration
Footage allows you to invite others to view or contribute to a story. People you invite may be able to see story content or add their own clips, depending on the sharing features you use.
Only share story links or invitations with people you trust. If you no longer want someone to have access, manage sharing from within the app or through Apple/iCloud sharing controls where applicable.
Children and family content
Footage can be used by parents and families to capture private memories. If you record or share videos of children, you are responsible for choosing where those videos are stored and who can access them.
Footage does not require children to create accounts in order for parents or family members to record family stories.
